A place where chess is more than 64 squares

The Chess Club at the University of St. Gallen was founded by students in 2025 to give the royal game a new stage on campus. Our aim is not only to promote chess as a competitive discipline and to compete against teams from other universities, but also to establish it as a permanent part of the university’s culture.
Our focus is not solely on competition. We are equally committed to building a vibrant community in which strategic thinking, exchange, and friendship go hand in hand. Chess fosters forward-looking thinking, structured decision making, and a conscious approach to risk, skills that remain relevant far beyond the chessboard.
Whether in exciting matches, internal tournaments, or social gatherings, we combine chess culture with an academic environment. In doing so, we create a place where chess is more than just 64 squares.

Meet the Team
In the CCSG team, you will not only encounter chess pieces, but real characters. From the opening guru and the endgame magician to the undisputed master of beer chess, everyone has their own special discipline. Together, we make sure that not only our kings are well protected, but that the fun is never checkmated either.
